Blankets, chargers and hot water taps: All the changes made to the ASSL

The ASSL has had a tiny bit of a makeover this year. Yes, it's still ugly it's not that kind of makeover. The kind of makeover where they give out free power banks and blankets and hot water, aka everything my weary student body desperately needs.

Here's a rundown of everything that has been introduced:

No more running out of charge, there's power banks!

As much as we all try to switch off our phones in the library, or use the forest app to convince us to keep it locked, we've all struggled with our phones running out of charge. This only means we have more motivation to leave the library, even though we know we shouldn't.

So, the ASSL have introduced a power bank scheme. If you're in need of that all important revision break scroll, just ask for a power bank at reception. They have larger ones for laptops, and smaller ones for iPads and phones, so there's no excuses for going home early.

Did someone say blankets?!

Yes, you heard right… the ASSL now has a load of blankets that you can borrow if you're feeling a bit chilly.

Sleep at own risk

And they can be found on every single floor, so there's no need to waste valuable revision time searching for a blanket.

I don't know if this is going to help me revise or help me sleep, but I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless.

Finally, some hot water!

Whether it's pot noodles, a cuppa or a mug of soup, the new hot water point is something we will cherish. It can be found on the basement ground floor, sorry there's only one of these so you'll have to trek for it if you study on the top floor.

Blankets and a cuppa tea, ahh the dream. It's just like being at home, minus the messy kitchen and moaning housemates.

Post-graduates can now book quiet study rooms for SIX months

In the ASSL's new year, new me revamp, they've implemented quiet study rooms for post-graduate students, because let's face it, they've got shit to do and don't want to be bothered by a bunch of rowdy freshers.

Pop down to reception to get your key! P.s. the rooms can be booked for six months!

Water fountains on EVERY floor

The ASSL is known for being one of the warmest buildings on campus, so the water fountains are a much-needed improvement. No more slogging to the bottom floor to fill up your water!

There's now a prayer room

The ASSL's ground floor now hosts a new prayer room, where students can go if they need a break from revision. The new, improved ASSL truly is a Godsend.
