The Cardiff Tab needs you: Apply to join the 2024-2025 editorial team

The Cardiff Tab is opening applications for a brand new 2024/25 editorial team. The positions available are: Co-Editor-in-Chief, News Editor, Features Editor, Social Media Editor and TikTok Editor. Your time is here to step up and take the reigns as one of the next editors of Cardiff’s BEST student media read by thousands of students every month.

We welcome applications from all students, journalism experience is not essential as you will receive training from experienced editors and journalists from The Tab HQ. The only requirements are that you are a student at Cardiff University and are able to attend and help run weekly meetings in Cathays.

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday 3rd May. Don’t miss it.

Holding an editor role for The Cardiff Tab is a fantastic opportunity, offering invaluable journalism experience that can open many doors.

Co-Editor in Chief

Responsibility in overseeing and running the entire team alongside the other Editor in Chief. Together you will be leading the direction of coverage, writing your own articles across news, features and experience pieces whilst also commissioning and editing articles from writers. You will also communicate with The Tab HQ, who are there to offer support and assist you with their invaluable journalistic experience. This role is suited to someone who holds great leadership and teamwork skills, motivated and highly organised.

A passion for keeping The Cardiff Tab on top of all the latest news and ensuring all of the team are motivated and working on something new so that The Cardiff Tab is as good as it can be. The role is really rewarding and a great opportunity to get involved in leading a team.

News Editor

Responsibility in keeping your ear to the ground in finding out all the latest news scoops in and around Cardiff. The nature of news being incredible fast-paced needs to be selected in your work. When a story surfaces you need to have the ability to work efficiently and quickly.

You will lead the news content for The Cardiff Tab, writing weekly and supporting the Editor in Chief by editing articles.

You’ll be working on stories like these:

Cardiff Uni rugby team allegedly banned from playing in league after ‘wife beater’ social

Cardiff students forced to shower in unlocked car park after water switched off in halls

Cardiff University rugby team caught in huge brawl with local residents during pub social

Features Editor

You’ll be in charge of writing and editing our fantastic feature pieces. You should have a strong idea of what you would like the features section of The Cardiff Tab to look like and where you aim to take it.

The role allows you to be witty, educational, opinionated and creative in your writing. It’s important you know what’s relevant, interesting and funny to the specific student audience at Cardiff Uni. You will bring article ideas to the meeting and help writers develop their own.

Social Media Editor

A fantastic opportunity if you’re looking to work in today’s ever growing world of social media. Responsibility for The Cardiff Tab’s digital brand and growing our student reach.

You will be in charge of managing The Cardiff Tab’s social media channels across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and working alongside the TikTok editor, brainstorming creative content. If you’ve got a great talent for creating your own memes that are relevant to Cardiff and student lifestyle, want to promote a brand image or just love scrolling all day, this one’s for you. Your responsibilities will include advertising our articles, posting regular daily content on our stories, sharing memes, growing our audience and keeping our followers engaged.

You’ll also support the editorial team in keeping an eye out for Cardiff related content and watching for the latest news and campus gossip. This role does not include editing articles, but you are welcome to commission and edit articles.

You’ll be making posts like these:

Tiktok Editor

You’ll be Working alongside the  media editor and the other section editors to promote Cardiff Tab content on TikTok.

Similar to the social media editor, this is a fun and creative role that requires you to have your meme culture knowledge down, ensuring The Cardiff Tab stays on trend. You should also be comfortable being in front of the camera as you will be expected to make regular voxpops and presenting the news articles we publish.
