Where the cast of The Inbetweeners are now 12 years on, as Netflix announces third film

Jay, Simon, Will and Neil are all coming back

In a shocking move that absolutely nobody expected, Netflix just announced that The Inbetweeners 3 is in production with the same original cast. Yep, Jay, Simon, Will and Neil are returning for a third movie, a whole 12 years after the second one was released. This is either going to be the best thing ever or totally awful. I can’t work out which way it’s going to go, but it’s certainly going to feel nostalgic either way. While you wait for the new film, here’s a look at what the cast are doing now, in 2026.

Jay Cartwright actor James Buckley makes a killing pretending to be his Inbetweeners character on Cameo. He charges £41.48 per personalised video, which always consist of “raunchy humour, inappropriate jokes, and plenty of ‘bus wanker’ references”. Other than that, he starred in the comedy White Gold and has two podcasts, one with his wife, Clair Meek, and another with his Inbetweeners co-star Joe Thomas, where they “blur the lines between fun, facts and friendship”. He and his wife have two teenage sons together, Harrison and Jude, and they’re besties with Danny Dyer and his wife Jo. What a random crossover.

Joe Thomas, who played Simon, is actually married to his on-screen Inbetweeners girlfriend Hannah Tointon, who played Tara in the show. They have a young daughter together, born in October 2022. Career-wise, Joe has carried on acting, starring in Fresh Meat and White Gold, and does stand-up comedy evenings called An Evening with Joe Thomas. He’s stayed besties with James Buckley, and they bring out a new podcast every week. Plus, Joe has done quite a bit of reality TV, including The Great British Bake Off and Taskmaster.

After playing Will McKenzie in The Inbetweeners, Simon Bird played Adam Goodman in the comedy Friday Night Dinner, starred in the sitcom Everyone Else Burns, the 2026 British crime thriller Steal, and has a role in Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie, Starfighter. He’s also moved into directing and recently directed episodes of Such Brave Girls and Amandaland. Simon is married to writer Lisa Owens, and they have two children, but keep their life very private. Simon doesn’t even have Instagram, so his personal life is a bit of a mystery.
