JP Miller’s dad has a 40-year criminal history, including dark allegations made against them both

Beyond a few references to Reginald Wayne Miller in Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife, JP Miller’s father was largely omitted from the documentary. 

Like his son, Reginald Wayne Miller was a pastor and a well-known individual in the South Carolina area. Also like his son, he had a long history of alleged criminal conduct and accusations.

In the documentary, Reginald Wayne Miller was largely mentioned to give context to JP Miller’s religious journey and why he was initially opposed to following in his father’s footsteps. 

“His dad had already had a number of legal issues and questionable circumstances happen,” fellow pastor Pam Muise said in Death of the Pastor’s Wife. “He [John-Paul] expressed that he had been a victim to his father’s passions and own weaknesses. His father had many outside relationships outside of his marriage, some with men, some with women.”

Way back in the 1980s, local news channels aired a five-part report where multiple students alleged inappropriate s*xual advances from the pastor. Then, in 2006, he was charged with lewdness and prostitution, but the charges were dropped when he signed up to a pre-trial intervention program. 

Later, when his wife divorced him in 2007, she said her “world began slowly crumbling” when allegations were made by former male students about misconduct. These details were included in her affidavit, but no official charges were brought. 

In 2014, Reginald pleaded guilty to fraud in foreign labour contracting, visa fraud, and wage and hour violations after mistreating international students who attended Cathedral Bible College. He was ultimately sentenced to time served and placed on supervised release for three years.

There were claims involving both Reginald and JP

In 2025, a lawsuit was filed by a former church member against both JP Miller and his dad, Reginald Wayne Miller. In it, the woman alleged that, when she was a minor, she was s*xually abused by both of the Miller men. 

“They used their positions of power to manipulate and exploit vulnerable victims while concealing their actions from the public,” she said, alleging that they “engaged in sexual abuse and predatory conduct — often targeting minors.”

The father and son hit back less than a month later in a lawsuit of their own, rejecting the allegations and branding them “grossly negligent.”

As for why these details weren’t included in the documentary, its creator said: “In no way were we trying to excuse JP’s actions. Without JP participating, or without his dad participating, we couldn’t go into too much detail.”
