Why JP Miller is banned from possessing weapons, as new details of his bond conditions emerge

Pastor JP Miller, whose story became the subject of Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife, is back in the spotlight after new details about his bond conditions came to light.

JP is currently prohibited from possessing a firearm as part of the conditions of his release on bond. The restriction comes after his late wife, Mica Miller, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in April 2024.

JP was accused of cyberstalking Mica for almost three years, as well as making false statements to police. A federal grand jury indicted him in December 2025, after which he posted a $100,000 bond.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, the conditions attached to JP’s bond include a number of restrictions on his behaviour.

As part of his release, JP cannot leave South Carolina without permission from the probation office. He is also prohibited from excessive alcohol use and from possessing any weapons, including firearms.

The documents state that John Paul must also undergo testing for prohibited substances and participate in either an inpatient or outpatient substance use treatment programme.

The firearm restriction is particularly notable given the circumstances surrounding Mica’s death, which has remained the subject of intense public interest following the release of the Netflix documentary.

JP has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death and has denied having any involvement in it.

JP has since remarried. He and Suzie Skinner got married on June 1, 2025, just over a year after Mica’s death, and the pair are believed to still be married.

Solid Rock Church, where JP was pastor, is no longer operating from its original location. However, JP, Suzie and other church members continue to meet at smaller locations, with JP preaching and Suzie leading worship.

The legal case surrounding JP is separate from the investigation into Mica’s death.

In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted JP on charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators. He has denied the allegations.

For now, his bond conditions mean that JP is not legally permitted to possess a firearm or any other weapon while those restrictions remain in place.
