Is JP Miller still a pastor after Death of the Pastor’s Wife? Inside his new embarrassing reality
JP is awaiting trial, but he’s not stopped preaching
Growing up around the church, Christianity was a major part of John Paul ‘JP’ Miller’s life even before the events of Death of the Pastor’s Wife.
Netflix’s new documentary was difficult to watch at times as we watched devout Christian singer Mica fall apart. The man at the centre of it was her husband JP Miller, whom she’d first met when she was just 13-years-old.
After Mica’s death, which saw rampant protests outside of the Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, JP was arrested for cyberstalking and giving false statements to federal investigators. He’s now awaiting trial.
Considering the part Christianity played in his life, even before becoming a pastor, what does JP Miller’s faith look like today?
Solid Rock Church was sold

For most of the Netflix doc, Solid Rock Church was seen through various clips available on its website. Both JP and Mica spent a huge amount of time there, the former as the pastor and the latter as the leader of worship.
After Mica’s death, enormous protests made it difficult for Solid Rock to operate as a functional church, and there was even a physical altercation between JP and a protestor. As a result, the pastor sold the land for a total of $2.1 million. It’s looking like the building itself will be torn down and replaced with condos.
“It’s been literally impossible for John Paul and others around him to live in peace,” his lawyer said at the time, “and honestly I have to blame the City of Myrtle Beach.”
JP also blamed the city, arguing it did nothing to protect the church and its congregation.
But that wasn’t the end of JP’s story.
JP Miller is still a pastor, but it’s different

Despite the scandal, Mica’s death, and the closing of Solid Rock’s doors, JP Miller is still a practising preacher.
But it’s a far cry from the atmosphere of Solid Rock, and his new group, Mercy Church, was started in 2024. There’s no massive stage, events, or band; in fact, the group doesn’t even have permanent lodgings.
Alongside around 15 to 20 loyal members, Mercy Church bounces around available locations. This includes vacant storefronts, gyms, and basically any space the church can get its hands on. JP’s new wife, Suzie Skinner, leads worship in Mica’s stead, despite having witnessed what the wife before her went through.
But the protests have followed JP Miller’s flock, and just last week protesters took to the streets once again.
“We just want the truth. We want justice for her and… we want there to be accountability,” one person outside Mercy Church said.
