Two huge details left out of Death of the Pastor’s Wife as JP Miller criminal charges pending

Netflix’s newest docuseries, Death of a Pastor’s Wife, leaves out huge details around the death of Mica Miller, so here are two of its biggest omissions. 

In Death of a Pastor’s Wife, family members and friends of Mica Miller tell the story of how she got involved with pastor John-Paul, also known as JP. The couple got together when Mica was 19, and JP was 35 and still married. After divorcing his wife, they got together and started leading the church as a power couple – JP as the pastor and Mica as the choir leader.

But in 2024, Mica filed for divorce against JP, and by the end of the month, she died by suicide. The tragedy caused outrage and advocacy for survivors against domestic abuse, with protests outside of JP’s church eventually leading him to sell the building and lose a large portion of his supporters. 

The docuseries mostly leaves out JP and Mark’s friendship

Before JP’s wife was the worship leader at Still Rock, it was his close friend Mark Kaufman. According to a now-deleted blog post archived by podcaster Beth Braden, Mark was the one who helped start Still Rock’s “paradise” – secular songs they turned into worship songs. Throughout the Netflix doc, we see clips of Mica singing these parodies.

When JP left the church after his affair with Mica was exposed, Mark was allegedly one of the main people who convinced him to come back. 

Still Rock allegedly bought a plane a week after Mica’s death

Beth Braden also discovered that Still Rock allegedly bought a small plane – formally registered to Still Rock Ministries. She used FlightAware to track the alleged movements of the plane, which stayed put in Rocky Mount airport for the bulk of the summer. The plane didn’t move until August, when it landed in a small airfield in North Myrtle Beach. 

The plane is no longer in Still Rock’s possession and appears to have been transferred to FeRX LLC, where Mark is listed as a co-founder.
