Mica’s ‘mum’ speaks out after Netflix doc, and the JP Miller story is more ‘horrific’ than we thought

Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife was difficult to watch at times as we watched devout Christian singer Mica Miller isolated away from friends following her marriage to pastor JP Miller. 

After meeting the man who would later become her husband, Mica dedicated a lot of time to Solid Rock Church, singing, and her then-husband, Jeremy. But then the affair began, resulting in the dissolution of Mica and JP’s marriages. 

Things only grew darker from there, with Mica in and out of psychiatric facilities as a victim of coercive control. It ended with what appeared to be her suicide in 2024, with JP now awaiting trial for cyberstalking and providing false information to investigators. 

Though she wasn’t featured in Death of the Pastor’s Wife, Mica’s motherly figure, Angela Clark, has now spoken out. 

Mica’s friend spent a lot of time with JP Miller

Despite being 22-years-old than the late singer, Angela Clark and Mica Miller struck up a solid friendship that included extreme sports, escape rooms, camping trips, and weekend getaways. In fact, in a new interview with the Daily Mail, Angela described Mica as “like a daughter to me”, and she even sewed the rhinestones into Mica’s second wedding dress. 

On the subject of Mica’s marriage to JP Miller, which came just days after she was released from psychiatric care, Angela recalled Mica being “miserable.” Just a few days earlier, she had been in an “alternate state” in the hospital, offering “crazy talk” that combined Christianity and Greek myth when Angela visited her. 

“The actual wedding at the church, in my opinion, should never have happened. She was literally straight out of the psychiatric hospital. She was not in a good frame of mind,” Angela said. “She had all of this new medication in her system. The entire day, she just wasn’t herself.”

Despite Angela and her husband having a friendship with JP Miller, their opinions started to sour as they watched him drag his private life into his sermons.

Angela explained: “The biggest thing that can come from it is the exposure of John Paul. The whole world should know that someone like John Paul does not need to be leading anyone. He doesn’t need a pulpit. He has no business being there. He should never have a church, and he should be in trouble for the things he’s done. He’s a lost individual, and he’s got those people believing this is the devil attacking him.

“It’s not the devil attacking him. This is the path you created for yourself. Just because he can stand on a stage and preach a sermon does not make him a godly man – and he is not a godly man.”

It led to a painful split from Solid Rock Church at JP Miller, with Mica ultimately cutting contact with the woman who had known her for years. 

In 2024, Mica got back in touch around the time she was separating from JP. They spent five hours together catching up, which included Mica admitting her husband’s controlling behaviour. 

“It’s bad. This girl needs help,” Angela told her husband after getting home. 

Mica’s life started to turn around

After mending her friendship with Angela, Mica began attending the same church. Soon enough, her smile returned, and she was more like herself.

Angela remembered: “She came about three weeks in a row. And then she sent me a message on the Friday night, before she passed on the Saturday. She said, ‘I can’t wait to see you sing.’ She hadn’t seen me sing when she’d visited, because the week before she’d sat with me at church. I think that was God saying, ‘You need to be with her. You don’t need to be standing on the stage.’

“And then I didn’t hear from her on the Saturday. The last thing she said to me was, ‘I can’t wait to see you up there singing.’ We’d talked about different things. She was in a good place.’

Angela was shell-shocked when her husband told her the news and refused to believe it. 

She added: “I looked at him and said, ‘What do you mean she’s gone?’ He said, ‘She’s dead.’ It was surreal. Like it wasn’t happening.”

JP Miller is now awaiting a federal trial, with the Mail reporting that it could move ahead in 2027.
