Here’s where Mica Miller’s family are now, after Death of the Pastor’s Wife on Netflix

Mica Miller’s family have continued to speak publicly about her death and campaign for changes to coercive control laws in South Carolina more than two years later.

The 30-year-old South Carolina worship leader died by suicide in April 2024. The same month, she accused her estranged husband, pastor John-Paul Miller, of abusing her “emotionally, sexually, spiritually, financially, and physically” in an affidavit filed as part of her second divorce proceedings.

John-Paul has denied the allegations.

Mica’s family have since appeared in the Netflix documentary Death of the Pastor’s Wife, which examines the circumstances surrounding her death and the events leading up to it.

According to Mica’s obituary, she was survived by her parents, Michael Francis and Angelita Ramirez, and her five siblings: Nate, Anna, Sierra, Abi and Destinee.

All five of Mica’s siblings appeared in the Netflix documentary, speaking about their sister and their experiences surrounding her relationship with John-Paul.

Director Julia Willoughby Nason described Mica’s as a “big family”, explaining that they moved around during her childhood before eventually settling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The family later began attending John-Paul’s Solid Rock Church.

Mica’s family had concerns about her relationship with John-Paul from the beginning, including the 15-year age gap between them.

The pair met at Solid Rock Church when Mica was a teenager, but did not become romantically involved until she was 20 and still married to her first husband, Jeremy. They began an affair in 2015 before divorcing their respective spouses and marrying each other two years later.

Mica’s father told The Sun News in June 2024 that the family had never approved of the relationship and had warned Mica that being with John-Paul was “very unwise”. However, the family continued to support Mica despite their concerns.

“When it’s your sibling, you support them and you just voice your concerns,” Sierra told The Sun News. “But the only way that we could maintain a relationship with her is if we kind of push our differences to the side.”

Following Mica’s death in April 2024, Sierra filed to become the special administrator of her sister’s estate.

She later withdrew the request and Mica’s family reached a settlement with John-Paul that same month. The terms of the agreement were sealed, although News13 reported that it meant he would not face civil wrongful death claims relating to Mica’s suicide.

Mica’s family have since focused on campaigning for legislation addressing coercive control in South Carolina.

The proposed legislation became known as Mica’s Law and aims to criminalise coercive control in the state. The family have continued to support the bill while awaiting John-Paul’s federal trial, according to Fox 8.

After Mica’s Law failed to pass in early 2026, her sister Abi appeared on WBTW to speak in support of the legislation.

“[Coercive control] is destroying families,” she said. “It’s destroying individuals, and it needs to stop.”

State Senator Stephen Goldfinch planned to reintroduce Mica’s Law in June 2026, according to WRDW.
