Since it might be on the rocks, here’s a timeline of Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey’s friendship

Now the rumour mill is working overtime to work out if Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey have fallen out after a shady sounding comment from Lana at the Met Gala, their era of friendship might be on the rocks. But the two icons of the music industry have been such huge fans and supporters of each other for years – so here’s a full friendship timeline of Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift.

They first meet in 2012

Lana and Taylor first meet at the MTV EMAs in 2012. Lana Del Rey introduced Taylor to accept the award for best female artist, and they seemed to be hanging out together after too.

In 2022, Jack Antonoff produced both their albums at the same time

Jack, Taylor and Lana spent a lot of time in the studio together around this time, whilst Jack worked with them on 2022’s Midnights and Lana’s 2023 record Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd? The trio were photographed hanging out a lot. Lana of course ended up on Midnights, on Snow on the Beach.

Speaking on his work with Lana and Taylor, Jack said “I’ve had a few (relationships) — really Lana and Taylor — where we’ve worked for a long period of time and found this space where it’s like, it gets loonier and loonier and more exciting.”

October 11th 2022 – Taylor announces her first collaboration with Lana

Taylor announced the title of her track Snow on the Beach featuring Lana Del Rey whilst teasing the Midnights era. Taylor said in her announcement “Lana Del Rey, in my opinion, is one of the best musical artists ever. The fact that I get to exist at the same time as her is an honour and a privilege and the fact that she would be so generous as to collaborate with us on this song is something I’m going to be grateful for for life.”

May 2023 – The fan demanded ‘More Lana Del Rey’ version of Snow on the Beach releases

The first Snow on the Beach version had a very muted Lana presence, and fans (me included) wanted the version with a more prominent Lana presence. The two listened and remade the song with Lana fully having her moment. Wow.

2024 Grammy’s

Taylor brought Lana up on stage at the Grammys when she accepted her award win, and also just generally spent the whole night by her side. They were in deep bestie era here. Taylor said of Lana “I think she’s a legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now.

“I think so many female artists would not be where they are and would not have the inspiration they have if it weren’t for the work that (Lana has) done … I’m so lucky to know you and to be your friend,”

2024 Super Bowl

Taylor brought Lana along at the Super Bowl to watch her beau Travis Kelce play.

Met Gala – potential feud?

After Lana Del Rey struggled to name her favourite song from 11th Taylor Swift album The Tortured Poets Department, people believe there might be some friction in the friendship timeline.

When asked her favourite song on Taylor’s new album The Tortured Poets Department, Lana replied saying “Uhh, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me. Whatever that title was.” Some Taylor fans deemed this as rude and dismissive of the album.

Previous tea on whether Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey had fallen out was sparked when Taylor didn’t watch Lana perform her headline slot at Coachella a few weeks back. She did however watch Jack Antonoff and Ice Spice, her other collaborators and friends.
