The wild Squid Game theories that aged the absolute worst after season three dropped

The milk theory aged as well as… well, milk

Squid Game fans have spent the last five years scouring the show for symbolism, and coming up with wild theories about what would happen in season three. Now season three is actually here, lots of these theories were proven to be very, very wrong. Sozzles. Here are the Squid Game theories that have aged the absolute worst now season three is here and we know everybody’s messy ends.

That whole ‘milk theory’

After season two of Squid Game dropped on Netflix, the internet went wild for “the milk theory”.

Back in season one, Gi-hun says he doesn’t drink milk. Il-nam says, “You’re just like my son”. The order of the English subtitles make it seem like Il-nam is comparing Gi-hun’s lactose intolerance to his own son’s. Some people decided this meant Gi-hun actually was Il-name’s son.

Then in season two, In-ho aka Player 001 aka the Front Man says he can’t drink milk. This led some Netflix viewers to theorise that In-Ho was secretly Il-nam’s son instead. The two did have a somewhat parental bond, which we got a glimpse of right at the end of season one.

However, in the original Korean, the order of the dialogue is a bit different. Il-nam’s doesn’t put so much emphasis on the milk. Plus, experts reckon approximately 75 per cent of people in Korea are lactose intolerant. I don’t think Il-nam has quite that many secret kids. Anyway, season three has come and gone and we learned nothing about Il-nam’s family.

There were a gazillion theories about Player 149 which all flopped

Jang Geum-ja is surely one of the most talked Squid Game characters with the least screen time. Before season three, people speculated that she was Front Man’s boss and was running the games, or that she was secretly Il-nam’s wife. Because she faced no repercussions for sneaking a weapon into the games, and she got extremely lucky in the mingle game, fans theorised she must be getting special treatment for some reason. But following season three, we know Player 149 isn’t any of these things. She’s just dead (RIP).

People failed to predict the final games

When Netflix started teasing promo pics for season three of Squid Game, viewers scrambled to figure out what the next games would be. People thought the final challenge might be related to the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill. Others guessed a game would play on the schoolbook moral dilemma The Trolley Problem. A chessboard was visible during the finale of season two, so some people thought the players would have to act in a giant chess game (a bit like the chess scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but actually violent). All of these options sound far more interesting than the game Gi-hun had to play in the finale, to be honest.

No, Gi-hun did not become the next Front Man

Rip to this theory. People theorised for years that since the Front Man once won the Squid Game, and Gi-hun’s morals progressively slipped throughout season two, that Gi-hun would ultimately sell his soul and take his place as the next Front Man. Obviously, this did not happen. Gi-hun went in totally the opposite direction.
