New student accommodation approved for Cardiff city centre

It will neighbour the Chapel 1877 restaurant and bar

Planners have approved a high rise 26 storey student accommodation tower to be built in the middle of Cardiff’s city centre.

The development will stand on the corner of Charles Street and Bridge Street, only a short distance away from The Motorpoint Arena.

For the new development to go ahead, buildings 71 and 71a Bridge Street will be demolished. They have been regarded not “historically significant” in the proposal.

As well as a planned 463 bedspaces, the 26-storey block will include shops and commercial units on the ground floor.

Plans show the building to have 121 studio bedrooms, with 72 “cluster flats” consisting of single bedrooms each with a study area and en-suite, and a shared living space.

Other impressive facilities planned for the development include a cycle store, common rooms and a roof garden for students.

Students will not be able to move in until a plan has been made to publicise the use of public transport in the city centre.
