A man has been hit by a bus near Eldon Square

There have been reports of a man being hit by a bus on Blackett Street behind Eldon Sqaure.

The Newcastle Tab were told of this incident at around 4.15pm this afternoon.

A security guard from Eldon Square told a reporter from The Newcastle Tab that an elderly man in a mobility scooter was trapped underneath the bus. He said that police were first on the scene and had to perform CPR, and following this six ambulances arrived.

Northumbria Police have since confirmed the incident, tweeting: "We are on scene following a collision on Blackett Street, Newcastle between a bus and a mobility scooter."

Newcastle University student, Hamish Maddocks, told The Newcastle Tab: "The area was cordoned off and police were speaking to witnesses".

Northumbria Police have said that a man has been taken to the RVI with serious injuries.
