We found the cheapest flights from Lancs and you can go on holiday for just £9

Ibiza for under a tenner is the dream

It’s getting to that point in term where it’s sunny but not warm; everyone is dreaming of summer proper when we can relax on beaches without any essays or deadlines. However, that time is still far in the distance, and there is still a long way to go.

For some, the Easter holiday is a time to catch up with all of the work they haven’t done this term, and for those who have been more diligent in their deadlines this term, it’s a chance for a break and relaxation.

Now, Lancaster isn’t big enough to deserve its own airport. However, it does have the blessing of being close to Manchester. Whilst the flights may be cheap, the train ticket to Manchester can range from £4.70 to £10.70 depending on which train you get and whether you have a railcard. All flight prices are calculated for a three-night break in the first week of the Easter break – and let me tell you, there are some really good deals out there for students!

Ibiza – £9

Ah, the joys of Ibiza. Who hasn’t, at some point, sat in the library and dreamed of being on the beaches, with a trip the clubs planned for later? And it’s only £9 to get there? That’s my food budget for a week by the end of term. It seems too good to be true. And yet it is if you are willing to cram your feet into a Ryanair flight.

Return flight £9 (Ryanair)

Average price of a pint – £4.21

Outbound 17:30 to 21:05

Inbound 11:15  to 12:50

Krakow – £13

Possibly a slightly lesser-known option, you may not realise that Poland, and Krakow in particular, is very well known for its flavoured vodkas, and you can go on a flavoured vodka making tour. When flights are only £13, this really isn’t going to break the bank, and it seems almost too good to be true!

Return flight £13 (Ryanair)

Average price of a pint – £3.15

Outbound 10:15 to 13:40

Inbound 11:35 to 13:10

Dublin – £18

On our alcohol tour of Europe, who could miss out on the home of Guinness – Ireland! The cost of an average pint of Guinness is £4.96, and with sights such as St Patrick’s Cathedral and Temple Bar just an hour’s flight away, it’s idyllic.

Return flight £18 (outbound Ryanair, inbound AirLingus)

Average price of a pint – £4.96

Outbound 21:50 to 22:45

Inbound 06:30 to 07:35

Milan – £22

If you’ve never had Italian pizza, you’re missing out. Milan is famous for its towering Gothic architecture and stunning sights, but even if this isn’t your cup of tea, it would be worth going to Italy just for the gelato! Coupled with £22 flights from Manchester, this sounds like a perfect way to get away from the stress of dissertation deadlines.

Return flight £22 (Ryanair)

Average price of a pint – £3.94

Outbound 06:35 to 09:40

Inbound 16:15 to 17:25

Brussels – £23

Belgian chocolate. Belgian whiskey. Belgian waffles. £23 flights. I rest my case.

Return Flight £23 (Ryanair)

Average price of a pint – £2.54

Outbound 08:05 to 10:25

Inbound 21:45 to 22:00

Corfu – £29

Made famous by the TV show The Durrells, who wouldn’t want to spend any time in an idyllic Greek island that looks like someone has transplanted it from my Mamma Mia fantasies and made it real life? Flights from Manchester are just £29, and whilst accommodation will probably be a little pricier if you want to live out your Meryl Streep dream, it’ll be worth it.

Return flight £29 (Ryanair)

Cost of an average pint – £3.50

Outbound 17:20 to 22:45

Inbound 20:55 to 22:20

Berlin – £43

With monuments like the Brandenburg Gate and the Charlottenburg Palace, and the extensive shopping district of the Kurfürstendamm, Berlin is a historical city for those students who like some culture when they are on their holidays. £43 is perhaps a little more expensive than some of the other options on this list, but it’s still a good deal for the more cultured student.

Return Flight £43 (Ryanair)

Price of an average pint – £6.50

Outbound 18:30 to 21:25

Inbound 22:00 to 23:05

Paris – £53

Ah, the City of Love. Strolling along the Seine, eating crepes, and pastries, drinking hot chocolate… the list is endless. If you want to partake in some culture, most museums offer half price to under-26s, and if you’re one of the lucky international students who are still EU residents, you can get in for free. Alternatively, it’s not far from EuroDisney. Your choice.

Return Flight £53 (Outbound Ryanair, Inbound EasyJet)

Price of an average pint – £6.76

Outbound 06:40 to 08:55

Inbound 11:05 to 11:35

All prices are correct at the time of publishing.
