The Sugarhouse to close for ‘the remainder of this calendar year’

‘This is not a decision that was taken lightly’

The Sugarhouse announced this evening that following the significant spread of the Omicron variant, the club will close its doors from Friday 17th December for the rest of the calendar year.

The decision was made with “the best interests of the health and safety of students who attend the venue and the staff who work there.”

The Students’ Union intends the club to open again in the New Year “when it’s safe to do so”.

In a Facebook post, the Sugarhouse team explained that this decision would mainly effect tomorrow night’s ticketed event, for which ticket-holders “will be issued a full refund for the ticket price”.

If anybody has lost property at the Sugarhouse, a member of staff will be present from 11 am to 4 pm on Friday for collection.

Tiyasha, a member of the bar team at the Sugarhouse, explained that she was “looking forward to an epic closing night, but our management definitely made the right decision.”

She continued: “The safety of our students comes before everything else for us”.

The Sugarhouse concluded its message with thanks to the students “for your support this term, and especially your co-operation with our early move to introduce the NHS COVID Pass scheme.”
