Fire services rush to blaze student accommodation

Firefighters called to a fire at The Glasshouse

| UPDATED Breaking Fire Student Accommodation

Firefighters rushed to a blaze at Glasshouse students accommodation in the early hours of this morning.

The services arrived at around 6.20am.

Students were evacuated while brigades from Central, Carlton and Arnold stations smashed a window to let out smoke and made their way into the fifth floor room.

Tom Jenkin, post graduate journalism student and Tab busy body lives in the accommodation and said: “There’s always alarms going off but it tends not to be anything, so this was a rare occasion.”

He also explained that at the time no one knew what caused the fire.

Matt Reavill who is station manager at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue tweeted: “While you slept @nottsfire crews across the city very busy with 2 serious flat fires 24/7 protection for the communities of Nottinghamshire!”

It is thought that an E-cigarette on charge was the cause of the fire.

Nottingham’s fire service also took to twitter to say that they used their main jet, high powered fans to battle the flames and that 4 people needed breathing apparatus.

Firefighters left the scene at around 7.30am once the blaze had been put out and everyone had been treated.
