Inside St Andrews Fashion Show

The largest and most successful student run organisation in the UK

With over 1500 guests, St Andrews fashion show is huge, posh and privileged.

This year’s show saw models sporting Fendi, Topman, and East Club, while this year’s guests brought back chokers, tassles and slits. There was a mixture of eye-popping colour as well as some sleek black ensembles. Without the usual black tie dress code, people could have a bit of fun with their outfits, encouraging big shirts and sparkly jackets.

Natasha Franks, a second year, described the event as simply: “Really, really big.”

With such a long show most people almost forgot about the second half and spend their time in the bars. Champagne was more expensive than promised, but that didn’t stop the students buying it. If people thought St Andrews was posh before, this event certainly highlighted the sheer amount of wealth of some of the students.

The bids in the infamous auction ranged from dates with models to Fendi purses to the much sought after St Andrews Oktoberfest table, all going for £500 to £2000 pounds or more. The biggest item this year was the Fendi Experience, a trip to Milan for the Fendi fashion week show with backstage passes, flights, and hotel for two, which went for a whopping £8000.

It seems not everyone can handle their drink as the Fendi Experience bidder backed out of the eight grand purchase just days later.

Guests were pretty drunk and ended up spilling drinks over each other. Gillian Davies, a student at St Andrews, said: “If an event is only as professional as its guest list, then maybe we should have a better look at who is attending next year.”

The after-party was apparently disappointing though as by the end of the night the bars were out of tonic, soda, and most other key mixers. Still, from the pictures it looks like FS continues to hold a firm grip on their reputation as the biggest and best night out in St Andrews.
