Controlled explosions carried out and man arrested after reports of ‘bomb’ in Lenton

Two packages were found in Maxwell Court and Allington Avenue

Two controlled explosions were carried out by Nottinghamshire Police after emergency services and bomb disposal unit were called to suspicious packages in Maxwell Court and Allington Avenue.

A cordon was set up in Lenton around Allington Avenue after emergency services were called at approximately 2pm on Friday 28th June, reports the BBC.

Residents, many of which were students, were asked to leave their homes and directed to the Walton Hotel which opened its doors to accommodate people whilst they waited for the scene to be deemed safe.

Multiple road closures were set up by police to ensure the safety of everyone in the area, the cordon was reduced after an initial controlled explosion, however, the area was not deemed fully safe until 5am in the morning of the 29th of June.

Whilst the area has now been reopened to residents, Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a man under the Mental Health Act in relation to these suspicious packages.
