Noise complaint? That’s nothing

Baffled students received a complaint from their neighbours because their house smelled too much of garlic.

Baffled students received a complaint from their neighbours because their house smelled too much of garlic.

In a letter given to The Tab, the Jesmond household were sent a letter complaining of a foul smell.

It said: “We came home tonight to find our home stinking of garlic and we suspect this came from your house.”

The letter was dated, addressed, signed and delivered by their next-door neighbours between 12am and 8am.

The odd letter received by the tenants

The complaint continues: “We would like to understand how this has happened since we cannot continue like this and would like to discuss with you at your earliest convenience so that we can agree on a way forward and eradicate the issue.

“This issue has occurred intermittently over the last six months but has since our worst experience yet.”

The envelope had the words ‘URGENT’ and ‘BY HAND’ written on the front.

‘Ridiculous’

Geography graduate Laura Harvey said: “At first we thought it was a prank and then realised there was no way they would know our neighbours’ name.

“We all thought it was utterly ridiculous as they aren’t within their rights to tell us what we can and cannot eat.

“Besides as far as we were aware there was absolutely no smell of garlic in our house.

“The format was also so formal, it was laughable considering it’s barely what we would class as an issue. We haven’t stopped using garlic and also haven’t gone to talk to them about it was we are baffled by the whole thing.

“We wouldn’t even know where to start beginning a conversation with them about it.”

The housemates even expressed the idea of dressing up as vampires as to explain why they, supposedly, used so much garlic.

Since the complaint however, Laura and her housemates have finished their tenancy and have moved out of the house.

Their departure was nothing to do with Garlic-gate.
