Rating Lancs students’ Christmas trees on creativity, originality and Xmas vibes

A traffic cone for a tree? That’s a new one

With the festive season well and truly upon us, the trees are out and stand with pride. It’s pretty clear that Lancs students wasted no time to get their trees up and lit and this year, they do not disappoint.

We asked Lancaster students to send in pictures of their festive trees, and it’s clear some students got creative this year.

Molly Casey, second year, County

The tree may be small but the colours are loud. At a first glance, this would just appear to be a basic white but colourfully decorated tree, however, if you look closer, you can make out the dinosaurs in Santa hats, that are actually the source of light.

A tree of a hundred colours is impressive, but the creativity of the dinosaurs makes it that much more spectacular.

This tree is easily conquering any competition, the overall look is astonishing.

Pasta for lunch and dinner alongside coffee being a substitute breakfast are all expected by students. It’s true, we have to get creative sometimes, but a traffic cone for a Christmas tree is definitely a new one. Also, it’s not just any old traffic cone, this one has been painted green to properly respect the festive traditions, and obviously, it couldn’t be left bare, and so it has been complimented with a carefully laid swirl of toilet roll.

So, even though this may not be the type of Christmas decor we were expecting this year, we give it points for creativity and commitment.

Sultans

Sultans never fails to impress with their perfectly delicious meals, and they keep their reputation for perfection with this outstanding Christmas tree.

There’s snowflakes, baubles, tinsel and a “Merry Christmas” placed right in the centre. The heart of campus has a beacon-like tree to anyone feeling festive and peckish.

Ami, second year,, Lonsdale

A good old traditional Christmas tree isn’t all we see in this house. Upon closer inspection, we can see a table cloth that reminds us of Stranger Things Joyce’s Christmas lights, as well as icicles hanging from the mantlepiece.

The tree is a spectacle for sure, and the room around it definitely compliments it; from the tablecloth to the little snowflake stickers on the mirror. The red and green are aided by the gold, giving a true homely feel this Christmas

Sophie Davies, second year, Bowland

Here we have another wonderfully traditional tree, whose star has been replaced with another beacon of happiness: a pride flag.

This tree definitely deserves credit for the pictures resting on its branches of the creators of this marvellous tree. The personal feel of this tree gives a “true meaning of Christmas” vibe to the room. We see the green tree with the red baubles and golden lights, but there’s also some purple tinsel, adding a pop of vibrancy in there.

The tree does not disappoint.

Emily, second year, Bowland

And here we see another true representation of uni life and student efforts for creativity. As opposed to your classic branchy Christmas trees, this house have brought new meanings to the season, by creating a tree-like structure out of empty toilet rolls.

An impressive 26 empty rolls have been strategically placed on top of one another to create a tree, with the “star” being the handle to the window. It’s definitely a new one and it is most certainly decorative in the ways of bathroom chic.

Oliver, theatre and creative writing, Pendle

The level of activity in this tree and the amount of effort that went into it is obvious. With baubles, candy canes, lights and extra decor. But the real cherry on top would have to be the snowman sat proudly on the top.

The snowman clearly approves of this trees immaculate vibe. Any colour you can possibly think of, this tree has it, and more.

Less is more, and this tree has loads.

It may not be packed to the brim with different decor, but what it does have is even better. There’s swirly baubles, love hearts, tinsel and pine cones, as well as a nice stack of board games sat beside it respectively. Lastly, to add to the festive feel, we see a little gnome-like Santa sitting happily on top of the tree. From the look on the little guys face, this tree definitely passes the vibe check.

Flat Four, House 36, Lonsdale

A white tree is definitely a bold choice, but is respectfully surrounded with silver baubles and blue lights. It definitely gives off a fresh vibe and is probably visible from 10 miles off.

The tree seems mighty tall and heavily decorated, but that star on top seems far prouder, and is the pinnacle of shine and glitter. This tree is definitely going places, and Lonsdale campus accommodation once again never fails to disappoint.

House 1, Flat 1, Cartmel

And last but not least we have a contender from Cartmel with a blindingly golden tree, a true Christmas spectacle and is probably visible from Bowland. With red and golden baubles of every shape and size and bright golden lights that probably have enough power to light up campus, this tree does not disappoint.
