A Cardiff University lecturer has been suspended following claims that he has engaged in sexual activity with students and boasted about it online.

The lecturer denies all the allegations, claiming he has been falsely accused.

Screenshots of a conversation that took place on Kik between the unnamed lecturer and another user were posted on Twitter.

The account which shared these screenshots, which included photographs of the lecturer, claimed that the lecturer has had sexual relationships with a “few students”.

The account which is claimed to be that of lecturer was not created recently and is showing as being active for over 2000 days.

A post was made on Reddit by the same account asking to meet “young women”. The account also continued to boast on Reddit about their “years” of sexual liaisons with students at the University.

Cardiff University responded in an statement issued to Wales Online: “Following a meeting with the member of staff this afternoon, a formal investigation into these allegations has been launched.

“As a consequence, the individual member of staff will not be undertaking any teaching activities, until further notice. It would be inappropriate to offer any further comment until the outcome of the investigation is known.”

The University further expressed that any students with concerns can speak to someone in the Disclosure Response Team to discuss the different reporting options and support available.

The UCU have also expressed that they will support anyone who has been affected by this situation.

South Wales Police confirmed the news saying that a male from Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of grooming and is currently released on conditional bail.
