Leicester comes 247th in global rankings

Even Aberdeen beat us

Leicester creeped into the top 250 unis in the world after an average showing in global rankings released last week.

According to US News, we’re the 247th best university in the world and 34th in the UK, behind the likes of mighty Aberdeen but ahead of rivals Loughborough, Sussex and Russell Group heavyweight York.

The news comes just weeks after we scraped into the top 20 in the Sunday Times national rankings after slipping to 28th the year before.

The Times clearly take a liking to us, as they also ranked Leicester a respectable 167th in the world – as the adverts around campus keep telling us: that’s the top 1 per cent globally.

But we remain down in 32nd place in the Guardian’s national tables published earlier this year, behind powerhouses such as Falmouth and Coventry.

Whatever criteria is used to compile these meaningless rankings, at least one thing is for certain: we’ll always finish above De Montford.
