University of Leicester lecturers set to go on strike for two weeks

When can I ask for my money back

Lecturers at the University of Leicester, as well as at 61 other institutions, are set to go on strike for two weeks at the end of next month over a dispute with their pension scheme.

The Universities and College Union (UCU) have confirmed that strikes will take place over a 14 day period.

The strikes are scheduled for the following dates:

Thursday 22nd February to Tuesday 27th February

Monday 5th March to Thursday 8th March

Monday 12th March to Friday 16th March

The strikes arose after the UUK's (Universities UK) decision to scrap a pension scheme which could see some lecturers £10,000 worse off after they retire.

Here in Leicester, the strike is backed by approximately 86 per cent of the lecturers, with an expected turn out of around 69 per cent.

The university has yet to make a statement on the strikes.
