I lived off Morrison’s savers food products for a week

I had to cheat a tiny bit though, couldn’t help it

I decided to try living off the Morison’s savers range for a week, and I have to say, that as an international student who doesn’t usually get to experience the most basic supermarket range, this week has been enlightening.

The groceries you see above cost a mere £16.93. That’s right, DIRT CHEAP for a week’s worth.

Most of the items shown tasted decent considering their price. The eggs were fine, the fresh chicken wings tasted like chicken and the garlic bread tasted like soul food. Would definitely recommend that.

My first and to be honest, my favourite meal of the week was a plate of my version of cheeseburgers (using the frozen beef burgers, sliced cheese and bread slices) and chips. As you can see, chips for days.

I had fries on most days as I consider it a staple. For 89p, they certainly do not disappoint.

Alright, so this is where the cheating kicks in. The Indian in me was craving spicy food, so I cooked some pulau (or pilau) which is basically stocked rice with spices and mixed herbs.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any savers mixed herbs or stock (BUT WHY MORRISONS), so I used some branded ingredients that I already had. Sorry, not sorry.

Additionally, I also used the chicken wings which went fantastic with the garlic bread- double score! (Again, sorry).

Now for the thing that did not please me. I don’t mean to sound like a first world brat but I was told that the savers chocolate hazelnut spread tasted like Nutella, and it ABSOLUTELY DID NOT.

It didn’t taste awful but hey, don’t offend Nutella like that. For some, it may be an acquired taste. And the same goes for the UHT skimmed milk by the way.

Overall, I have to say that this week was survivable to say the least and I am grateful for the savers range.

If it was an option, would I put myself through this again though? Probably not. But when you’re stuck in financial rut, you know where to go.
