All the ways London became the ultimate Swiftie city and embraced the Eras Tour

A selfie of Taylor Swift with the royals AND Travis Kelce was not on my 2024 bingo card

This past weekend, you may have known Taylor Swift played three shows at Wembley Stadium as part of the European leg of her Eras tour.  I don’t know if I was even half expecting the ways in which London embraced her arrival, never mind Prince William and Labour Leader Keir Starmer. Thus, in honour of the presence of Miss Taylor Alison Swift in London town, the city in many ways showed their admiration (and she showed us KCL students hers too). Here is a complete rundown in all the ways London embraced Taylor Swift.

The Tube Map

Low and behold, the TFL Tube Map: Taylor’s Version. Who would have thought? Honestly, the Mayor of London has my vote once again. He definitely didn’t design this, but he gave the nod for the idea – so he has my praise. It’s just so pretty too – however, if you were new to King’s, you definitely wouldn’t be able to locate Strand Campus at Tell Me Why station. If I didn’t know the Circle and District line inside out, I’m not sure I would have been able to either.

The Swiftie Steps

If the Mayoral elections hadn’t just been and gone, Mayor Sadiq Khan would have surely won over all of the Swifties of London with the Taylor Tube Map and the Taylored-graffiti steps. Khan enlisted Sunderland artist Frank Styles to create a portrait of Taylor Swift at the Spanish Steps of Wembley. If you haven’t seen this in person, it is HUGE. The steps connect Wembley stadium with Wembley station. You can just imagine all the Swifties scrambling on these steps after the end of the concert to make their journey home – hell, horror, and everything in between.

The Royal Family

Truly, iconic. Prince William really said ‘copy and paste’ with Prince George and Princess Charlotte – spitting image! I would not have put this on my bingo card for 2024.

The VIP Tent

London won for the most iconic people in the VIP tent for all three shows. Yes, I did see Ashton Kutcher in Shoreditch on Thursday (I was too scared to say hi) but I just knew he would be at Eras. He was joined by his wife, Mila Kunis, and their children at the concert. More famous faces included: Paul McCartney, Theo James, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Andrew Scott and Nicole Coughlan. I wonder if Taylor has seen Nicole Coughlan’s recent campaign for Skims…

Keir Starmer

He has my vote just for this. Enough said. Plus, his favourite song is Change from Fearless. I’m actually not ok.

Gracie Abrams makes an appearance on stage

Yes, Gracie Abrams is not from London, never mind English, but her surprise performance with Taylor on N3 really was a statement. London thus welcomed her presence and were in awe as they performed Us (feat. Taylor Swift) from Gracie’s newly released album The Secret of Us. Jaws were on the floor. I can’t believe I did not see this with my own eyes.

Shoutout to KCL

Now, KCL welcomed Taylor years ago when she performed at The Vault in 2008. A monumental event really, one for the history books. Taylor returned the favour when she gave a special mention to us on N1 when she thanks London for how they have embraced her over the years. She told the crowd: “I started out playing Kings College.” Unbelievable, really. I also can’t believe I missed this AND Gracie Abrams.

Miss Taylor Alison Swift will be back once again for FIVE more shows beginning from Thursday 15th August through to Tuesday 20th August 2024. This will be the greatest amount of shows she will play in a SINGLE city for the Eras Tour, phenomenal. It is no wonder London is so fond of her.

If you got to witness Travis Kelce AND Gracie Abrams on stage, I hate you. (Not really, I’m incredibly jealous.) London, you won for surprise songs. I’d sell an arm and a leg to witness N3’s mashup of Out of the Woods, Is It Over Now, and Clean.
