Catz Application Cock Up
St Catz sent out 400 emails to applicants congratulating them on winning places after they were REJECTED weeks earlier.
St Catz has sent emails to over 400 applicants containing “congratulations” on their offers – by mistake.
The applicants, who’d been turned away in January, received emails yesterday morning applauding their success on winning entry, along with information on fees, accommodation and term dates.
The father of one of the duped students told The Telegraph “It is so unprofessional to send out a blanket email in this way and give false hope to young people who are in the middle of their A-levels… you expect a bit better from Cambridge.”
A spokesman from the University said that “We can confirm that an error was made regarding an email distribution list.”
“This was quickly resolved and an apology was immediately sent. We deal with large volumes of decisions and it is rare for an error to be made.”
You shall not pass
But this isn’t the first time that Catz have cocked up when dealing with prospective students. In admissions for the 2009/10 academic year, the college accidentally rejected students who’d applied for physical Natural Sciences, and had to send apologies saying they could come after all.
Speaking to The Tab, second year Catz student Henry Delacave said “I feel sorry for what the applicants have had to go through, they’ve just had a torrid time. What a downright downer on their day.”
