Brighton and Hove’s food venues with the worst hygiene ratings
Won’t be dining here anytime soon
The food hygiene rating scheme was introduced by Food Standard Agency in 2010 to help you choose where to eat out. Inspectors visit restaurants, and consider the cleanliness of the premises, as well as how food is stored, prepared and handled by the workers. Businesses are rated on a scale from zero (urgent improvement requires) to five (very good).
In Brighton, there's a wide variety of independent food outlets, which may not have the same strict hygiene guidelines as chain restaurants.
The following venues were all visited by inspectors since December 2016. Here's how they were rated:
Cafe Royale
50 Preston Street, Brighton
Cafe Royale is in fact Brighton's only restaurant with a 'zero' hygiene rating, the lowest which can be given by an inspector.
However, the following outlets have a one star rating:
Cheese and Toast
Lewes Road, Brighton
Bangkok Express
London Road, Brighton
Brewed
136 Lewes Road, Brighton
Cafe Diva
94 St James's Street, Brighton
Beijing House
Queen's Road, Brighton
Bistro Nantais
41 Church Road, Hove
A'maze
73A Western Road, Hove
So if you don't want food poisoning anytime soon, perhaps by your food from somewhere else next time you have late night munchies.
