Newcastle Uni ranked 18th best university in the UK by students

Newcastle Uni is the GOAT

Newcastle University has landed 18th on Student Crowd’s latest leaderboard of British universities, coming in strong with an average review of 4.28 stars out of five.

The Student Crowd scoring is based entirely off of student reviews, and covers scores for campus facilities, clubs and societies, student’s union, careers service, and internet speeds. It also leaves space for students to write in their own reviews, allowing them to anonymously speak their truth about their time at Newcastle.

Newcastle’s score is comprised of 559 student reviews and is tied with the Universities of Liverpool and Bristol, but has beaten out local rivals Northumbria University, who fell short by only 0.2 stars.

Student Crowd also hosts a ranking for accommodations and has put up an extremely controversial leaderboard, naming Barker House as Newcastle’s top student housing, closely followed by Leazes Parade and Albert Place. You might not be shocked to hear that Castle Leazes has come in at a lowly 26th place, but you may be more surprised to learn that Park View has only finished 34th, though it hasn’t been reviewed since 2019.

Newcastle’s reviews offer some pretty poignant advice to incoming students. One reviewer wrote in October 2022 that “I think this university is very good, 4.4/5.” Short and sweet, why waste words?

Another student wrote that the Uni is “Excellent when not on strike, Excellent when not on strike, Excellent when not on strike. 4.4/5.” They’ve done well to get their point across there, as more UCU strikes loom in the near future.

Perhaps the most passionate review of them all, however, came on November 25, 2021, when a student wrote “Went for a viewing. Seems nice. Didn’t actually go there. 3/5.” So maybe we shouldn’t read too deeply into this leaderboard.

The University of Sheffield sits top of the pile with a score of 4.6/5 and are joined in the podium places by the University of Greenwich and University of Cambridge, scoring 4.54 and 4.47 out of 5, respectively.
