London students named most hardworking

The news we’ve all been waiting for

| UPDATED

The 2014 Student Living Index, published by Natwest, has revealed that students in London work twice as hard as the average British student.

The results show that while the average student spends 28 hours 42 minutes studying (seriously?), and 4 hours working every week, London students burn the candle at both ends, working almost 8 hours a week on top of university commitments.

Standard hard-working student

But, even though we work the hardest, the study shows we’re also really good at getting rid of our money.

Despite being named the 6th most economical student city, students in London actually end up spending a shocking four and a half times more than they earn.

In fact, we spend a staggering average of £17.10 on eating out every week, way above the national average of £11.90.

It’s either spend more money or be forced to drink this

And of course, this is washed down with £10.90’s worth of drink, putting London students in 6th place for alcohol spending.

Unsurprisingly, Transport for London also gets its unfair share of our precious cash. While students in Cambridge spend a measly £1.50 on travel every week, London students have to part with a massive £15.10 every week just to get around.

There’s never much left over

So, as 22% of students claim to be receiving less financial support from their parents this year, it may be time for us to tighten those purse strings.
