The Tab Exeter is recruiting and we want you to write for us!

The best part? You don’t need any prior experience!

Want to write for the biggest student-run online website? If you want some fantastic journalism experience, this is the place for you!

The Exeter Tab is run by Exeter students. We write about all things Exetah, breaking news stories on campus, and we even stalked the campus cat so we could feature him in an article.

You would be writing for the best journalism team on campus, where we have weekly team meetings and lots of fun socials for everyone to get involved with.

Here are some more reasons why you should join The Exeter Tab:

What is The Tab?

The Tab is a student life and news site with over 6 million monthly readers. The Tab Exeter has over 16,000 page likes on Facebook, so you will be writing to a large audience where your voice will be well and truly heard. Many articles that do exceptionally well are often shared to the national Tab page, which will ensure even more people are reading your article.

Why should I write for The Exeter Tab and not other student journalism groups or societies?

Many articles written by local Tab teams are picked up by large news organisations such as the BBC, and lots of Tab writers have gone on to work for places such as VICE, Cosmopolitan and The Telegraph.

Our team and editors work closely with an Assistant Editor at the Tab HQ in London, who provide us with advice on how to make your stories stand out and reach a wider audience – something which you won’t get anywhere else!

In the last year, The Tab Exeter have been the first to publish multiple breaking news stories on campus. The Exehonestly scandal was our biggest breaking news story, which was reported on by the BBC. Other breaking news articles included: Exposing an Exeter professor for a series of Transphobic tweets, reporting on students that were occupying a building on campus to show solidarity with UCU strikes, and even that Ed Sheeran was seen on campus!

Whether you want to be breaking news articles or writing fun features like what Gavin and Stacey character your uni halls would be, writing for us means you can cover pretty much whatever field you’re interested in! There are no set limits to what you can write about.

A sociable group

As a sociable bunch of people, we will provide you with frequent socials and nights out. Whilst our aim is to work hard, we definitely aim to play harder! Whether it’s a chilled drinks night in the Ram, or a big boozy Impy trip, we aim to make your experience with The Exeter Tab as much fun as we possibly can. This would be an opportunity for you to meet a wide range of people from all years and courses, and everyone is welcome.

Experience

Whether you want to be making memes for us or simply writing articles, joining our team will give you great experience which you can add to the old CV! There will also be opportunities to work your way up to editor and social media roles.

Dedicated team

Our editors are dedicated to making sure you have the help and support you need. Every week at the meeting you will be able to pitch your ideas to the editorial team who will guide you and give you useful tips to make your article the best it can be – or alternatively, you can just drop them a message at any time of day about any article ideas that you have.

Added bonuses

As well as being the first to hear about major campus gossip, you will also get free Tab stash. We’re talking t-shirts, stickers and stationary – what more could you want?
