Undertone and 10 Feet Tall are set to close

All staff of the venues have resigned

10 Feet Tall and the basement venue Undertone are set to close down. All staff have resigned as of today, Monday 20th January 2020.

In a Facebook post published today, 10 Feet Tall stated that all staff of the venues, including management, bar staff and sound technicians are resigning as the directors were planning to change use of the premises without consulting staff.

According to the post, planning applications had been made to turn the premises into a restaurant and commercial unit. The post has since been deleted.

Theo Thomas, manager of Undertone, told The Cardiff Tab: "We found out Friday via a WalesOnline reporter and today we all decided to resign".

When asked about the resignations, Theo said: "I'm heartbroken to be honest, loved my job, loved the venue and loved the team I worked with. Just a shame the owners do not share the same mindset as us… a job is a job, but losing the venue cuts deep".

Both venues are extremely popular in Cardiff for live music, with Undertone being a unique, underground club.

The Cardiff Tab asked Theo about the possibility of the clubs staying open, to which he said "we are unsure right now but have a feeling the directors will attempt to continue. However our GM who owns the DPS which is required to open legally has also left, so I can't imagine they'd be able to open any time soon."

The Cardiff Tab have reached out to 10 Feet Tall owners, but are yet to receive a reply.
