A Cardiff student died from hypothermia after walking home nine miles wearing only a short sleeve shirt and trousers.

Jason Bunney, age 20, known as Ali Bunney to friends, left a Cheltenham nightclub where he was celebrating his friend’s 21st birthday in the early hours of February 9th last year.

An inquest has heard that the Economics and Accounting student was potentially four times over the drink drive limit.

The coroner said he died from hypothermia which was worsened by alcohol intake.

Friends had presumed that Ali had got a taxi home as he usually did, however he was found the following afternoon by a dog walker at the edge of Gloucestershire Airport, near Cheltenham.

Despite efforts to save him by the emergency services, he later died in hospital.

But despite the new results, Jason’s mother believes he was taken by someone dumped unconscious and left to freeze.
