Brookes says no to Blurred Lines ban

Students’ Union against banning Robin Thicke’s “rape anthem”

| UPDATED

An Oxford Brookes Students’ Union official has told The Tab that they are not planning to ban Blurred Lines on campus.

Joel Holmes, a spokesman for the Students’ Union, said: “We don’t plan on banning anything. We believe there are bigger issues requiring our attention than the interpretation of the lyrics to a pop song.”

Robin Thicke’s pop hit is still causing controversy as some student unions, most notably Edinburgh’s, have banned the song from their university buildings.

Lines such as “just let me liberate you” and “I hate these blurred lines, I know you want it” have been deemed sexist by groups up and down the country.

More extreme opinions have suggested that it “excuses rape culture”.

Miley Cyrus’ now infamous ‘dancing’ at the VMAs, has not helped to improve the song’s image.

The Oxford Brookes Feminist Society declined to comment.
