‘We thought The Tab was a professional site’

| UPDATED

The Tab’s series on Aberdeen’s shocking accommodation scandal got fifteen minutes of airtime on national TV.

BBC Watchdog broadcast the shameful over-subscription of halls on last night’s episodes.

And their team admitted it was The Tab’s coverage they had followed that inspired them to launch an investigation.

Co-Editor Asma Butt said: “They said when they were researching the situation they read some of The Tab’s articles, and asked for a full list of what we’d published on it.

“They even knew our reporters names that had done a lot of the coverage.

“The producer Max thought we were a professional news site. He had no idea it was entirely written by students.

“He was very impressed.”

Some were forced into hotels

Asma broke the exclusive on The Tab Aberdeen in August after investigating freshers complaining of being made homeless.

We then ran seven follow ups on Crombie hallsthe army-style barracksThe Aberdeen Homeless Societycruel threats made by the uni, scored an exclusive interview with a fresher deferring his entry and chased the continuing fuck-ups by university management.

One of the affected freshers

Watchdog traveled all the way up north to film a documentary about the cock-up.

And one of the freshers they interviewed was a Tab Aberdeen reporter. Asma added: “They said we saved them so much time, and when their Editor was on their back to get the story as quickly as possible it was because we knew so much they got it out in time.

“We even took them to Hillhead and we showed them exactly where that common room was.

All Tab reporters are this pretty

“He took the numbers of everyone in the team and were calling us on a daily basis for information. We helped set up a lot their interviews.

Another student said: “We got them everything they needed. In fact, we probably should have been paid.”
