Soton Tab Editor Applications: NOW OPEN

We’re happy to announce that applications for the new Soton Tab Editorial Team are now open!

Since we launched in October last year, we’ve gone from strength to strength – now getting more readers than the Wessex Scene on a regular basis. None of this has been possible without the fantastic team of people we’ve got writing and editing for the website.

We like to keep things fresh, so we have new applications every semester instead of every year like most societies.

We’ve got 12 section editor positions available, as well as the position for overall editor. Being an editor is half writing, and half working with other writers (usually over Facebook) and checking their work is great.

We’ve also got two new positions: advertising director and marketing director, to handle the business side of things.

Editor

The boss – you’re in charge of the whole thing. By far the biggest CV boost out of all the positions, you get out what you put in. The decisions you make on a regular basis are seen in the articles by the thousands of people who read the Soton Tab. A fair bit of work, but incredibly rewarding and fantastic fun.

Advertising Director

With this position you’re in charge of advertising. With the huge number of people reading the site, this is a huge opportunity to make a decent amount of money from adverts. We’re not part of SUSU, so we have no rules on what The Tab can or can’t do with the money. Obviously a bit will have to spent on promotions, but the rest can be spent on whatever the team wants. (free drinks etc)

Marketing Director

There are so many opportunities to get The Tab read by more people in Southampton. As marketing director, you’ll be focusing on new ways to do this, how best to get our name out there in Freshers Week etc. An important job that could make a huge difference to our reader numbers.

News editor (x2)

We’re looking for 2 news editors – people in charge of keeping up to date with the latest news going on. Articles generally present the facts in a sensationalised and easy-reading manner. If you’re good at coming up with Daily Mail-style headlines, this position is for you.

Opinion editor (x2)

Opinion articles are some of the most important on our site, and always get a lot of reads. If you enjoy getting your opinons across and want to do so in an entertaining manner, apply for this.

TV & Showbiz Editor (x2)

TV, gossip, schmooze – all that entertaining stuff. This position is ideally suited for anyone who keeps up to date with the latest news in this area.

Sport Editor (x2)

There’s so much sport going on in Southampton – as a sports editor you’ll be covering the latest results from the biggest games. This position is ideally suited for people who are involved in teams.

Nightlife Editor (x2)

Funny stories, crazy pics, and general news about the nightlife in Southampton. If all too often you find yourself in hysterics because of something crazy that happened the previous night, chances are this position is for you.

Degree break Editor (x2)

We all need a break from our degree. This is what this section is about – providing interesting / wierd / incredible stuff that you’ve found across the web. If you find yourself spending hours on Youtube going through video after video, you’ll love doing this.
