Students Support Strikes meeting with UCU this week
The meeting will take place on Friday the 11th of February
Student solidarity group, Students Support Strikes are hosting an in-person solidarity meeting for those who want to express their support for UCU strikes.
The meeting will take place on Friday the 11th of February at 1 pm in George Fox Lecture Theatre three.
The meeting is an opportunity to meet with staff and other students and learn how you can support the UCU action.
The group urges students not to go onto campus on the 14th-18th and 21st-22nd of February. Students should also stay at home for the other strike dates on the 1st-2nd of March, in line with the staff strike dates.
The Student Support Strikes Instagram post explains how staff in the UCU are striking as a result of “low pay”, “exhausting workloads”, “unfair pensions”, “insecure contracts”, and “gender, race & disability pay gaps”.
The group also explain how this is a “last resort” as they know that “strikes do work” and claim that “the more support staff have, the sooner the dispute will end.”
If students wish to express support for the strikes, the organisation advise that they “spread the word & don’t cross the picket line”, “email uni management”, and “visit the picket lines & teach-outs”.
