10 free things you can get around Lancs on your birthday

Who doesn’t love being rewarded for being born with a free cookie?

Free things at any time of the year is a welcomed thing, especially for students, but on your birthday things just feel extra special. Being away from home on your birthday feels a little unusual so why not grab some of these freebies and treats from your favourite places in Lancs to help those birthday celebrations feel a bit more special.

Some you can just turn up on the day, but others do require some forward planning, so make sure you set your reminders on your phone. But here are the top 10 free things you can get on your birthday around Lancaster.

Greggs – sweet treats

Getting the Greggs Reward App could mean that your inevitable trip to Greggs between your lectures becomes slightly cheaper. If you download the app, you will receive a coupon valid for doughnuts, cakes or cookies. Let’s face it, this will be the Lancs students favourites but there are no free sausage rolls, unfortunately.

Lidl – cookie

A little bit out of the away and a lot of people didn’t even know Lancs has a Lidl, but if you sign into the Lidl Plus App then you can get a free chocolate cookie. Just take your voucher off the app in the store to get a cookie from their bakery. Although this is only valid for three days so you’ll have to make the trek off campus quite quickly.

Subway – cookie

Subway is an easy stop in between your seminars for a quick break to collect that cookie. A freebie that most people are aware of, but you need to register online or in store for a “subcard” then present this at the counter to enjoy your cookie. You don’t even need to buy anything else in Subway so there is nothing holding you back from this one.

Starbucks – free drink

This is another birthday treat that most people know about, a free drink from Starbucks. We’re not sure if this works on campus so you might have to get the bus to town to collect your hot chocolate. However, this is only for Gold Members, to be a Gold Member you have to have spent £150 in store. If you qualify for the Starbucks Rewards, I’m impressed.

Sugar – goodie bag

Most birthday celebrations end up with the drunken decision to go to Sugar anyway, but make sure that when you get to the till at the door you let the staff know it’s your birthday and you could receive one of Sugar’s Birthday Goodie Bags. Everyone will be jealous of the treats you get while dancing away on that dance floor.

Glow – drink vouchers

Another inevitable end to birthday celebrations, however, you will have to plan ahead with this one. If you purchase a Birthday Ticket Entry online within seven days of your birthday (only Fridays and Saturdays) then you’ll get your age in drinks vouchers. The vouchers will be given on arrival if you present your Birthday Ticket.

Kaspar’s – cake or milkshake

No signing up is necessary for this one, but it is a bit of commitment to get to. You simply have to walk into Kaspar’s with an ID that has your date of birth on it, and you’ll get the choice of a free slice of cake or a free milkshake!

Bella Italia- free meal

This is another freebie that requires some planning, but if you make sure that you sign up for Bella Italia’s newsletter online at least two weeks before your birthday then you can receive a free meal. Worth up to £13.45, you definitely need to make sure you’ve signed up for this one.

Sultans – cookie dough

Let’s face it, if you are a true Lancaster student your drunk celebrations will end here and if you let them know that it is your birthday then you could receive a free cookie dough and they may put “Happy Birthday” on over the speakers for you.

Zizzi’s – free meal and prosecco

While you can’t use this one just yet, remember to sign up for when the new Zizzi’s opens in town. If you sign up at least a week before your birthday then you can get a main meal and a glass of prosecco for free.

So treat yourself to a little walk around town and campus on your birthday to collect your free gifts, and make your birthday, even more, exciting this year.
