Cardiff University has risen ten places this year in the Good University Guide 2023 published by The Times & The Sunday Times.

The university now stands at the national rank of 25th out of 132 universities in the UK, ten places higher than in 2022 when it ranked 35th in the UK.

Cardiff University is situated between the University of Manchester at 24th and King’s College London in 26th Place.

Cardiff Uni is also the highest placed university in Wales as Aberystwyth Uni ranked 41st, Swansea Uni ranked joint 42nd, Bangor Uni came 45th, Cardiff Met ranked 93rd, and the University of South Wales ranked 103rd.

Stats taken from the official ranking table, which comprise how the overall ranking is decided, show that Cardiff Uni has a 92.8% course completion rate, 83.2% of students get Firsts or 2:1s, it is 17th in the UK for graduate prospects, and 21st for research quality.

However, where the university lacks is in terms of teaching quality where it was listed 94th. The subject with the highest student satisfaction in teaching quality was Celtic studies with 85.8% of students satisfied. The lowest ranking was Economics with a 58.3% student satisfaction rate.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan said: “This is excellent news, especially given the continued exceptional challenges our staff and students have faced over the last twelve months.

“Retaining the Welsh University of the Year title is a fitting tribute to the immense dedication of our academic and professional services staff. It is testimony to their committed efforts to deliver an outstanding experience for our students and undertake excellent research in difficult circumstances.

It is also pleasing to see the rise of ten places in our UK position. We are not complacent, however, nor are we driven by rankings alone. We want to improve as a University for the benefit of our staff and students, and to fulfil our obligations to society more broadly.”
