Bike robbery, armed police and a helicopter: Monday night in Cathays

Police chased suspect as helicopter circled Cardiff

At 11:15 P.M. on Monday night, two men with knives approached a 24-year-old man near Senghennydd Road and took his bike. South Wales Police chased the suspect once the alarm was raised and a helicopter from NPAS South West Region was deployed to support the chase. A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion near Gordon Road.

Joint Firearms Unit’s twitter account said: “@JUOps located and arrested a suspect whilst @SWPDogsSection tracked down another locating the stolen property. Great teamwork with NPAS South West Region and South Wales Police.”

The Unit also confirmed that on Monday, one in five armed-deployments across the region were in relation to the street robbery.

Residents of the Cathays area took to twitter to speak about the aerial activity as it continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Some were confused while some were disturbed by the noise.

The 19-year-old suspect is in custody as the investigation continues.
