It’s true: Gavin and Stacey will return for more episodes ‘one day’
Oh my Christ!
The BBC has confirmed that Gavin and Stacey will return to our screens ‘one day’ for more episodes, following the success of their 2019 Christmas special.
As a sitcom cherished by Brits of all ages, it is no surprise that Gavin and Stacey co-writers and co-stars, Ruth Jones, and James Corden, had never completely written off the idea of the show returning in some format.
Though the BBC’s Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, did explain that a 2020 Christmas special “wasn’t something that was going to happen this year,” she followed to drop the line fans have waited for since the end of season 3, in 2010 – “One day.”
As one of the few pieces of uplifting news to come out of 2020, fans now have something more to look forward to in the coming years.
In the 2019 Christmas special we caught a glimpse of what the Barry Island and Billericay families were up to nearly a decade on, with the title characters now being the parents to three children – Harri, Caitlin, and Megan.
The special also saw Nessa proposing to Smithy just as the credits began to roll, leaving fans with not only a huge cliffhanger, but also the expectation of the show returning one day. Did he say yes, or no? WE NEED ANSWERS.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain back in 2019, Oscar Hartland – who plays Nessa and Smithy’s son Neil the Baby in the original series, shared how he would love a fourth series to take place if the fans wanted one.
He also added: “I would like them to make a series four so much. I would like Smithy to say yes, and for the last episode to be their wedding.” Fingers crossed!
This news comes following speculation of a new Christmas special or series being filmed after Joanna Page (Stacey) and Matthew Horne (Gavin) were spotted on a night out together in Cardiff recently following the lift of the Welsh firebreak lockdown.
