Severn Tunnel set to close for six weeks in September

The tunnel will shut 12th September and reopen 21st October

The Severn Tunnel is closing for six weeks in September for maintenance work as part of the electrification of the railway.

Network Rail have said the tunnel, which connects Wales to many busy cities such as Bristol, Reading and London, will be disrupted for up to six weeks from September.

Passengers using the service will be diverted to Gloucester or bus replacement services will be put in place, which could add an extra hour onto journey times.

The Severn Tunnel is set to close in September until October

The tunnel is being closed as part of the £2.8m electrification revamp of the railway line between London and South Wales.

The popular Bristol to Cardiff route isn’t expected to be completed until December 2018.

A full electric train service is expected to start from 2019 onwards.
