Football team slapped with indefinite ban

Brookes football team banned after ‘Take Me Out’ social invite is leaked.

The Oxford Brookes football team have been banned from competing indefinitely after the University decided that its members behaviour on social media sites was ‘inappropriate.’

The shocking news will be a major blow for the sports department, coming less than a year after the rugby club were reinstated after their own year long ban following accusations of racist and abusive behaviour and vile initiations.

One of the clubs more successful socials

Apparently the decision was taken by Professor John Raftery, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience, after an event invite on Facebook was screenshotted and sent to senior management by an anonymous source.

The event, which was supposed to have taken place late last year, was a ‘Take Me Out’ style social. In a meeting with senior members of the University the football club were warned that the sexual nature of the event reflected a culture that needed to change.

When contacted for an official quote by The Tab, Raftery said: “Signed behavioural contracts have been received by members of the club wishing to take part in the future, should the club be reintroduced, as well as a proposal from members to pro-actively improve the culture within football at the University.”

“The University takes incidents of this nature very seriously and a decision will be made at a future date if it is appropriate for the club to be reinstated.”

Going the same way as the rugby club?

Their decision echos that of last year. Before being allowed to compete again all members of the Rugby team were forced to sign a contract which meant that future discrepancies would see them booted out of university.

It is unsure whether the social was the sole reason behind the University’s decision or if there were other factors involved.
