Pupils at school 20 minutes from BU told to self-isolate due to coronavirus

Parents are asking for the school to be deep cleaned

Two students at Corfe Hills School have been told to ‘self-isolate’ after displaying symptoms of Covid-19 following trip to Northern Italy.

The East Dorset school is located just 20 minutes from Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus and welcomes students aged 13-18 from across the county. In an email sent out to parents yesterday the headteacher, Phil Keen, said that the two students were told at the start of the day they could attend school provided they showed no symptoms. However, “this changed during the day” and the pupils were put into self-isolation “immediately.”

Following the email many parents began removing their children from school and requested that the school is deep cleaned. Parents have also been quick to criticise the schools lack of communication which they feel could have made the situation less daunting and easier to manage.

Mr Keen reiterated that the school had acted in accordance with Government guidelines through out the situation and will continue to keep parents regularly informed as appropriate.
