BU made nearly £40,000 in library fines alone last year

Bournemouth University collected just under £40,000 in library fines last academic year.

BU received £39,694.89 from overdue books, excluding the cost of replacing lost books and any other damages in 2016-2017.

It's not far off the total fines from the year before, which toppled to over £40,000.

That's two grand pls

So, where does this money actually go? Well, the university say it's not just spent on one thing.

Employing students in the library to do jobs such as tidying, collecting books, supporting other confused students, using self-service equipment and other typical library tasks are all funded from our late night returns.

The money is also poured into facilitating language conversation clubs for students wanting to learn other languages.
