The University of Aberdeen appoints a new Principal

Professor George Boyne will take on the role from the 1st of August.


The University of Aberdeen has appointed Aberdeen graduate Professor George Boyne to the role of Principle and Vice Chancellor.

Originally from Aberdeen, Professor Boyne is a double graduate from the University, but has spent most of his academic career in Wales.

Professor Boyne is currently Pro- Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Cardiff University, and is looking forward to spending more time in the North East as Principle at the University of Aberdeen.

On being appointed, he has said: "It is a great honour to have the opportunity to serve the students, staff and external partners of the University in this role"

" I am looking forward to leading the University in its ambitions to be inclusive, inter-disciplinary and international in reach and quality across the full range of its teaching and research"

Professor Boyne will succeed Sir Ian Diamond as Principle and Vice Chancellor, who has decided to step down after eight years in the role.
