142mph Winds Hit Scotland

Aberdeen awoke to a bout of bad weather this morning with winds recorded as high as 142 mph, causing disruption across the country.

It is estimated that some 100,000 homes in the country are without power as a result of the conditions. Further to this, Glasgow and Edinburgh are reporting fallen trees and hazardous debris, which has led to the evacuation of Glasgow Central station. Sadly there will be no trainers for Edinburgers today as the roof of Straiton’s JJB sports has blown off.

This is perhaps the worst weather that Scotland has seen since 2011s hurricane Bawbag. Police are advising people to take extra safety precautions and avoid travel where possible.

We have witnessed one incident in West Lothian resulting in the death of a lorry driver, with further traffic incidents being reported across the country.

For safety measures, the Erskine and Forth road bridges have been closed and all train services suspended. Over 150 schools across the country have been closed.
