A new £22m student village is going to be built in Canley

Work will start in February 2018

Yesterday a student village to be built in Canley was unanimously approved by planing officers.

The £22 million student village called 'Warwick UniVillage' will house 450 students from the University of Warwick.

The flats will consist of either nine or thirteen ensuite rooms, with a large communal space and village hub that will include a range of amenities.

Work is scheduled to begin in February 2018, on the former land of Canley Sports and Social Club in Marler Road.

Urban Pulse, who will be developing the project, hope to welcome students from August and September 2019.

The project is anticipated to add £26.6 million to the local economy during the construction phase and £5.8 million a year once completed.

Final year history student Joe was unsure of the benefits of the new university village. He said that "this will just serve as an enclave of international students, further isolating them."
