Brighton party organiser fined £10,000 for breaking rule of six

Over 100 people were in attendance despite COVID regulations

On Sunday, BBC Radio Sussex tweeted about multiple parties in Brighton that occurred on Halloween, where one party organiser in particular was fined £10,000 in line with the government’s COVID regulations.

Officers arrived at Norwich Drive at 11:55pm on 31st October to a party with over 100 people in attendance. This was the same night police attended a party in East Slope on the University of Sussex’s Falmer campus and fined its organisers. A gathering in Stanmer Park was also shut down on the same night, with generators and speakers being seized by the police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police released a statement, saying that “Police units attended and made efforts to engage with the people present, encouraging them to adhere to the Covid regulations and leave the premises. However, officers were met with violence and abuse, with one sergeant being assaulted.”

One man was arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody.
