Your essential guide to the best vegan spots in Brighton

Because we eat more than just falafel

Being a vegan or a vegetarian often comes with a lot of misconceptions.

The most common perhaps being that we never stop going on about our choice to not eat meat…this is bearable as to be fair, it's kind of true.

However, one misconception that is certainly untrue is the belief that being a vegan is limiting, expensive and boring. I'm sorry, but if any one of these are your thoughts, you're just wrong. Being a vegan is actually pretty easy, especially when we live in Brighton where there is a vegan spot around every corner.

1. Purezza

It seems only right to start this guide off with everyones' favourite food – pizza.

The best part about this restaurant (and all other vegan spots for that matter) is that it is not exclusive to vegans…there is no reason as to why your meat-eating friends cannot enjoy this delicious alternative to a more expensive and far less healthy Dominos. An additional bonus is that so many of Purezza's pizzas are gluten free, so there really is something for everyone.

Purezza also offers gluten free pasta options which are equally delicious and range from Courgetti Spaghetti to a classic Lasagna. They even offer a mouth watering vegan oreo pizza.

Oh, and they're dog friendly so there really is nothing not to love.

2. Wai Kika Moo Kau

If a vegan fry up is what you're after, this is one of the best places that Brighton has to offer.

This little gem is extremely reasonably priced at just £8.95 – cheaper than a large breakfast at Spoons. The portions are a perfect size and you get everything you could want including grilled tofu, vegan sausages and crispy hand cut potatoes.

3. Food for Friends

Located in the South Lanes of Brighton, the restaurant offers the classy atmosphere us students desire without the overpriced food.

Food for Friends offers a mixture of vegan and veggie options, all of which sound delicious. The best part of this menu is the offer of small plates for when you perhaps don't fancy a large meal, or maybe you and a friend want to try a few different dishes together.

Many of the veggie options include a vegan alternative so, whatever you fancy can be altered to your own specific dietary requirements.

4. Happy Maki

As a sucker for a shake, it was the vegan 'Banana Mylkshake' (at just £3!) that first enticed me, but the whole concept of this vegan spot is particularly inviting.

Happy Maki makes vegan sushi into burrito sized rolls in a variety of combinations, such as the 'Thai Sweet Potato' and the 'Avocado Kiss.'

As well as these wraps being absolutely delicious, there's more. Happy Maki offers student discount, delivers via Deliveroo and provides a very instagrammable interior should you choose to eat in.

5. Foodilic

This place is literal beauty.

I am tempted by Foodilic every time I walk past it, despite usually having just eaten.

Whilst there is a mixture of meat and veggie-friendly food, the veggie and vegan options are devine and when you're getting a buffet at just £7.50, what's not to love?!

Plus, if the buffet doesn't entirely fill you up, they also offer a selection of raw cakes including a delicious carrot cake.

6. The Prince George

Unsurprisingly for Brighton, this pub offers an extensive vegetarian/vegan menu, with many of the veggie options offering vegan alternatives.

If you want more of a cozy feel instead of just something to Instagram, then this one is definitely the place got you.

They even offer a vegan option on their Sunday roast menu served 12-7pm every Sunday; what's better than a roast dinner in the pub during winter?
