The South Glasgow University Hospital changed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being opened by her Highness in July.

Spiraling costs reached £100,000 with money splashed on an exorbitant Royal ceremony and fancy signs.

The-state-of-the art facility has taken over for The Southern General Hospital, Western Infirmary, Yorkhill Hospital for sick children, and Victoria Infirmary.

A petition opposing the monarchy rebrand reached almost 13,000 signatures.

We asked what Glasweigans thought of the regal name change.

Joe, Taxi Driver

“We still call it the South Gen. I think they should rename it after the woman that done the rent strikes, Mary Barbour, is there not enough things in the city called the Queen Elizabeth and The Royal?

“One hundred thousand pounds and they didn’t show a lot of imagination, what a waste.”

Lara, 19, Student

“I think it’s a stupid idea. It doesn’t matter what it’s called at all it’s just important they provide top quality service.”

Paul, 57, Hypnotherapist

“What an extravagant expense especially since the NHS is under a lot of strain economically at the moment. I would rather employ more nurses frankly.”

Caz, 26, waitress

“Have they named it after her? You know I don’t really care. It’s not like I’m pro-royal or anything but it doesn’t really impact me.”

Neil,30, web designer

“It all just seems a bit unnecessary. That they haven’t really publicised it makes it worse. They could’ve named it after someone much much more worthy.”

Scott, Unemployed

Scott, Unemployed

“They should spend it on homelessness.”

William, Taxi Driver

William, Taxi Driver

“Absolutely ridiculous. There’s probably a hundred different places in there that need it, different departments, everyone could do with £100,000. It’s ridiculous.”

Isa, 85, Retired

Isabella, 85, Retired

“I think that’s absolutely disgraceful the money could be put to the nurses and the staff that work very hard. To me it’s an utter waste of tax payer’s money.”

Liz, 50, Foot Healthcare Specialist

Liz, 50, Foot Care and Health Specialist

“I think the money could be spent better elsewhere, it’s a waste of time there is nothing wrong with the name as it is.”

Lisa, Letting Agent

“Can you not just start calling it something else without the cost?

“I suppose you’ve got the stationary expenses and stuff, the signage and naming it on maps, there’s a lot of legality but still.”
